The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is a african american television sitcom starring Will Smith known as himself, a street wise kid who moved from Philadelphia to Bel-air to stay out of trouble living with his Uncle (Phillip Banks) and Aunt (Vivian Banks) and his cousins, Hilary Banks, Carlton Banks and Ashely Banks. This show is one of my main influences and one of my first sitcoms I watched growing up as a child and it has a lot of original ideas and the show is suitable for children to adults so that’s the target audience I would like to aim for when developing my own 2D animated series.
An american sitcom created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman starring Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox and Lisa Kudrow. The show is about six friends living in manhattan full of laughs, love and drama, another sitcom that influences me I grew up watching and a classic show that still is relevant at this present time, because they still show the series on television even the show has ended. I like the characters in the show because they all have their own unique personalities.
My Wife and Kids is another african american family sitcom starring Damon Waynes known as ‘Michael Kyle’ and Tisha Campbell-Martin known as ‘Janet Kyle’. “Michael Kyle, a loving husband and modern-day patriarch who rules his household with a unique and distinct parenting style. As he teaches his 3 children some of life’s lessons, he does so with his own brand humor”, referenced from IMD I researched. Waynes and veteran are the writers/producer, Don Reo co-created and executive produced the series. This show gave the same influences i gained from ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ but this show is more current so there’s more things that the target audience can relate to in this day of age than the other show even thought ‘My Wife and Kids’ has ended in 2005.
The Boondocks is a african american series created by Aaron Mcgruder. Starring the Freeman family, ten year old ‘Huey Freeman’, eight year old ‘Riley Freeman (younger brother)’ and their grandfather Robert Freeman. This series is a huge influence in my film and my comic because not only is a black animated sitcom, the series was originated from a short comic strip that got posted on newspapers. The series has an anime style to the characters because the storyboard gets sent to the animators in Japan and then they get the scenes done. The series is too rude for television so its only aired online but I’m aiming to create a series more censored to be more suitable for a younger target audience as well.
The Proud Family is an black animated television series created by Bruce W Smith and produced by his studio, Jambalaya Studios. This show was premiered on the Disney Channel Starring Penny Proud (the daughter), Oscar Proud (the over protective father), Trudy Proud (the loving mother), The tough Grandmother Suga Mama and her two baby siblings, Bebe and Cece. This show in the other hand is more aimed for children up to 13 years old but I love the style of black animation used in the show but I would like to create a show that can relate to an older target audience as well.
The Simpsons is an american animated series created by Matt Groening about a middle working class, dysfunctional family, starring the stupid father Homer Simpson, the loving mother Marge Simpson, the daredevil son Bart Simpson, the smart daughter Lisa Simpson and the baby daughter Maggie Simpson. The family also have two pets, Santa’s Little Helper (dog) and Snowball II (cat). This show has been consistent from 1989 to the present time and its a show that can appeal to all ages which is the same target audience I’m aiming for. The Simpsons also started of as a comic so its another huge influence for my film for me to research the transition from a comic to an animation.
